Betty Laliberte
Betty is a retired librarian. She had the privilege to work in school libraries with pre-school, primary and secondary students here in Illinois. She was the K-12 school librarian at Istanbul International Community School in Turkey from 2000 to 2003. It was this experience that opened the world for Betty. After returning to the USA, she worked from 2004-2014 at Elmhurst Public Library in Adult Services which further broadened her world.
Education: BA in American Studies from University of Dayton in Ohio and an MLIS in Library Science from Rosary College, River Forest, IL.
In 2007 Charlie, Dorothy and Joe Valintis and Betty began ChildrenUP. We have had the opportunity to learn about the Ugandan educational system and by way of student letters, we have learned about their culture and their way of life. Each yearly visit has been a wonderful learning experience for Betty and her husband, Charlie.
She as been a board member since 2007. Her major responsibility is accountability. She works with our Treasurer and a professional bookkeeper.
