Nancy

The First ChildrenUP Student.

Director of ChildrenUP, Charlie Laliberte, first met Nancy in June, 2008 and was impressed with her dedication to education and her resourcefulness. ChildrenUP supported Nancy with living expenses as she completed her university degree.

2010 Our First Group of Students

Concy

After Concy completed her four years of secondary education, Concy was accepted into a medical lab technician training program at St. Mary Lacor Hospital where she graduated with high honors. After working for two years as a lab technician, she applied to a more advanced degree from the Mildmay Institute of Health Sciences in Kampala. This three-year program will lead to a diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology.

Francis

Francis attended Sir Samuel Baker for four years of ordinary secondary school. He then studied at Our Lady of Africa in the Mukono where he excelled in his UACE exams. Noting his academic success, the Ugandan government offered him a five-year scholarship to Gulu University in medical studies. He is well on his way to becoming a medical doctor. We anticipate the time when he will have a “Dr.” in front of his name.

Kinyera

In 2020 Kinyera received his certificate in nursing.  We send our congratulations. He began his secondary studies at St. Joseph College of Layibi. He then did further studies at St. John Paul II School where he was named the Head Prefect.

Lillian

Lillian attended the Sacred Heart Secondary School in Gulu, Uganda. After graduation she applied for a nursing certificate from the Gulu School of Nursing. After graduation Lillian worked as a nurse for three years. She has recently started a diploma in nursing at the Lacor School of Nursing. While other students have been sent home, Lillian has been asked to stay on at St. Mary Lacor Hospital to assist during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Patrick

In 2010 our staff had selected the allotted number of the students for the year. The staff petitioned the board to include one more student, Patrick. They felt he was a most promising young man.  He was added to the roster with board approval. Patrick succeeded in six years of secondary school. He studied at Gulu High School for four years of ordinary levels and two more years for advanced level at St. Joseph College of Layibi. He was then accepted into a two-year program at Gulu University in Computer Science. He is now working with the Uganda Revenue Authority. Patrick has stayed actively involved with ChildrenUP.  He is a contributing member of our Annual General Meeting each year.

Ronaldo

Ronaldo started with ChildrenUP in 2010. After ordinary level secondary school, he went on to two years of advanced level. In 2017 he was admitted into the Uganda Technical School in Lira in a 2 year program. He received a National Diploma in Water Engineering where he placed number one in his class at the time of graduation. At present he works with the National Water and Sewerage Corporation.

In 2020, Ronaldo has received a scholarship to study at the Illinois Institute of Technology.   Due to the pandemic, he has not been able to get a visa to the USA.   He is able to study online from Uganda.   We wish him well in his studies.

Vicki

Vicky is now working as a nurse. Vicki completed her secondary school studies at Gulu High School she applied to the Gulu School of Nursing where she received her certificate. She has been working as a nurse since 2017.
